STX France has received an order from Cap L'Orient community on the coast of Brittany, France, to build a zero emission eco friendly ferry.
The electric passenger vessels will have a length of 22m, beam of 7m, draft of 1.2m, operate at a speed of 10kt and can carry 130 passengers.
The ferry will be based on supercapacitor technology developed by STX Europe and will be built at Lanester shipyard of France.
The vessel will use energy storage based on supercapacitors redesigning vessel's architecture, including watertight compartment definition, lightship weight distribution, electric thruster selection, as well as hull form.
The new generation of vessels will allow a significant reduction in ship emissions with zero direct emission in electric mode, with no diesel engine in operation reducing the sound and vibration level significantly.
The vessel is scheduled for delivery in 2012. |
