1. common强调“常见的”，共同的，普通的。指因为人或者物所共同具有的的或使用而使之常见的，但一般多指物，侧重很常见，不稀奇。有时也可引申表示‘一般的’，‘平常的’，也是指普通，没有特别之处，但有时也会含有低劣粗俗的意思。如：

　　in whole （整个地，全部地），

　2. ordinary（与众多同类的东西相比）强调“平常的”、“平淡无奇的”。用于物，指每天发生，十分平淡无奇，用于人，指无特别之处，很一般。 如：
　　①His ordinary supper consists of only bread and milk. 他通常的晚餐不过是面包和牛奶。
　　②It was a very ordinary day today.今天是很平常的一天。

　　固定用法：
　　ordinary dress平常服装；
　　ordinary force【军】常规部队
　　out of the ordinary不平常的，非凡的； 例外的

　3. general基本含义是“普遍的,全面的; 总的,整体的”,该词侧重牵涉人人或绝大多数地方。引申可表示“非专门的,一般的”“正常的,常规的; 通常的”“大致的,笼统的”。。如：
　　①This book is intended for the general reader, not for the specialist.这本书是为一般读者写的， 不是为专家写的。
　　②Give me a general idea of the work.告诉我这件工作的概括情况。
